Kanal – Centre Pompidou is a new museum of art and architecture in Brussels, created on the initiative of the Brussels-Capital Region. The museum is being developed in the former Citroën garage in the Yser area, along the canal, with the Kanal Foundation responsible for its development and management in collaboration with the Centre Pompidou. Its programme brings together visual art, architecture, performance, theatre, dance, film, music, workshops, lectures and public events.
A central part of Kanal's institutional mission is the development of the Kanal Collection, established in 2018 with funding from the Brussels-Capital Region. The collection focuses on 21st-century art by artists living and working in Brussels and Belgium and encompasses diverse media, including painting, sculpture, photography, film, video, installation, performance and archival material.

Attaché de collection (Collections Officer) – Kanal
Kanal is seeking a Collections Officer to join its Art Department and support the Collections Manager in the development, documentation, conservation and enhancement of the Kanal Collection. The position combines collection administration, research, artist liaison, loans, cataloguing, digitization and logistical coordination.
The successful candidate will contribute to the development of the collection and its public accessibility, including through the museum's digital collection database and online catalogue.

Position & Tasks
The role covers the administration, documentation, conservation and development of the collection. Key responsibilities include preparing files for the Acquisition Committee, communicating with artists and galleries, documenting acquisitions, negotiating rights, coordinating contracts, invoices and insurance, and maintaining work records.
The officer will also manage external and internal loans, including facility reports, insurance documentation, transport, packing, condition reports and returns. Additional duties include preventive conservation planning, storage optimization, artwork movements, archives and collection files.
For cataloguing and digitization, the position involves implementing new collection-management software, maintaining the database, documenting artists, works, acquisitions and loans, organizing photographic and digitization projects, and contributing to analysis of online visitor needs.
The position also involves artist liaison, research, responding to collection enquiries, supporting presentations and mediation projects, contributing to online collection publishing, and providing administrative and accounting support to the Art Department.

Eligibility
Applicants should have:
- Training in art history, art restoration or an equivalent field.
- At least 2 years of relevant professional experience; museum experience is an advantage.
- Knowledge of artwork handling and preventive conservation standards.
- Strong knowledge and interest in contemporary art and art history.
- Experience with databases and Microsoft Office.
- Strong organizational, analytical and administrative skills.
- Ability to work independently and collaboratively.
- Fluency in French and excellent understanding of Dutch; bilingual French/Dutch ability is an advantage.
- English comprehension.
- Willingness to work in Brussels and travel regularly to Zaventem.
