The doctoral education is in the subject of Artistic Practice in Visual, Applied and Spatial Arts, is given on artistic grounds and comprises 240 credits. It is based upon the foundation of artistic practice established in Konstfack’s main fields of study: fine art, craft, design and visual communication, and leads to a Degree of Doctor of Philosophy in Artistic Practice in Visual, Applied and Spatial Arts. About the Doctoral Program
Konstfack is offering a full-time, four-year doctoral position in Artistic Practice in Visual, Applied and Spatial Arts, with a special focus on Artistic and Literary Writing & Curatorial Practice. The program comprises 240 ECTS credits and leads to a Doctor of Philosophy in Artistic Practice in Visual, Applied and Spatial Arts.
The position is situated within Konstfack’s Department of Fine Art and includes supervised research, coursework, public dissemination activities, and participation in the university’s vibrant artistic research community.
Project Focus
Konstfack seeks a candidate exploring the intersections between literary and artistic writing and curatorial practice, within an international and interdisciplinary contemporary art context. Research topics may include themes such as the body, perception, aesthetic experience, or cultural infrastructures.
Ideal candidates will integrate creative writing, material inquiry, curatorial methods, and public programming—building dialogue between institutions and communities through original artistic research.
Duties
Up to 20% of the position may include departmental service (e.g. teaching, committees), extending the post to a maximum of five years
Formulate and carry out an independent, practice-based research project
Undertake required and elective doctoral-level courses
Participate in seminars, conferences, fieldwork, and public programs
Produce and disseminate artistic outputs (e.g. exhibitions, performances, publications)
Engage with the research environment at Konstfack, including day-to-day activities

Eligibility:
To be eligible, candidates must meet both general and specific entry requirements:
General Requirements (any one of the following):
- Master’s degree (second-cycle qualification), or
- At least 240 credits of completed higher education, including 60 at the second-cycle level, or
- Equivalent qualifications obtained in Sweden or abroad
Specific Requirements for Artistic Practice in Visual, Applied and Spatial Arts:
- At least 120 credits in relevant artistic or design subjects
- Documented practical experience in a relevant artistic field
- Documented experience in writing within the subject area
- English proficiency equivalent to a passing grade in Swedish course English 6
