Short Description

The Squatfabrik is a program of research and experimentation residencies in the fields of visual arts and performance art, proposed by and at the Kulturfabrik, in synergy with the Bridderhaus artist residency, and financially supported by the Œuvre Nationale de Secours Grande-Duchesse Charlotte.

In 2026, the Squatfabrik will offer three residencies of four weeks each. These residencies will take place between April and July 2026, and will welcome an artist or artist collective based in Luxembourg in tandem with an artist or collective based in another European country. The local artist and the international European artist do not have an obligation to collaborate. The project of the residency duo at the Squatfabrik is a space for exchange and sharing without hierarchy, where artists have the opportunity to work and exchange together in the same shared workplace.

Eligibility

The call is aimed at emerging artists or artists who can attest to a significant professional career (individual or collective application). Residencies will be awarded according to the relevance and uniqueness of the projects submitted. Approaches that include a reflection on the ecological impact (reuse of materials, pooling of resources, soft mobility, etc.) are encouraged.

We strongly encourage applications from artists from all backgrounds, especially those who are underrepresented in the arts community, including (but not limited to) racialized, LGBTQIA+, disabled, neurodivergent, rural, or precarious socio-economic backgrounds. (N.B.: At the moment, the Squatfabrik residence is unfortunately not accessible to people in wheelchairs, due to the lack of adapted sanitary facilities allowing complete autonomy.)

The eligibility criteria are:

  • Uniqueness and relevance of the project in view of the vocation and programming of the Squatfabrik
  • Values in common with those of the Kulturfabrik
  • The artist lives in Luxembourg or lives abroad and is a Luxembourg national
