Short Description
In 2022, the Art Commission of the City of Düsseldorf launched a new format, which focuses on the promotion of contemporary art in public space. With stadt.raum.experimente, local, but also internationally active artists are invited to develop experimental and temporary concepts for the Düsseldorf urban area. Whether installation, performance or participation: stadt.raum.experimente is open to unusual forms and experimental ideas.
Eligibility
Professional artists are eligible to apply. This both includes individual primarily artists and collectives working in the field of visual arts. Applications are welcome from both established artists and those at the beginning of their careers. The city.raum.experimente format format encourages applications regardless of cultural or social background, gender, age, religion or disability belief, perceived, or sexual orientation. Individuals who identify as BI PoC (Black, Indigenous, People of Color) and/or FLINT* (women, lesbians, inter, non-binary, trans* and agender people), in particular those who experience intersecting forms of marginalization, are strongly encouraged to apply. The format is aimed at artists who wish to develop innovative concepts for public space in Düsseldorf. There are no limitations regarding artistic disciplines – proposals may include a wide range of artistic practices such as installations, performance, sound art, digital formats, collaborative or participatory projects, as well as other approaches experimental. Prior experience with art in public space is not required.

Program Benefits & Awards
Artistic projects in public space are funded, which reflect the state and the change processes in the city and actively shape future developments, for example with regard to sustainable aspects. Society-relevant topics can be taken up in the projects. Up to €120,000 are available each year. Each project is funded with a maximum of €60,000.
