Short Description

Located just steps away from the bustling Saint-Laurent Boulevard in the heart of Montreal, La Chapelle was founded in 1990 and celebrated its 35th anniversary last May. It is a creative space, a performance venue, and an organization dedicated to promoting the performing arts, with a focus on multidisciplinary avant-garde art and young artists. The venue is a hub for encounters and reflection, welcoming local and international artists. It is a catalyst for contemporary creation and a vehicle for promoting the performing arts in all their diversity and complexity. Guided by a passion for presenting innovative events and a commitment to promoting artists, La Chapelle’s mission is to energize the professional milieu, develop an audience sensitive to subversive approaches, and enrich the contemporary artistic heritage.

Position & Tasks

Reporting to the board of directors, you will define the organization’s overall direction and development and financing strategies, as well as ensure their implementation. You will also define the organization’s artistic vision and general direction and ensure its viability.

With a critical eye for the performing arts and a bold artistic vision, you demonstrate a strong ability to imagine programming that is off the beaten path and to put forward innovative ideas for the development of contemporary creation.

Attentive to the needs of the cultural ecosystem, you are committed to contributing to the provision of healthy working conditions. Working closely with the co-directors and team members, you are able to consolidate the organization’s strengths within a stimulating and coherent vision. You enjoy collaboration and working as part of a team.

Given the current socioeconomic context, you enjoy challenges and are interested in the following major issues: public and private funding, organizational stability and governance, artistic renewal, equity, audience development, communication strategies, outreach, and local and international partnerships. La Chapelle’s positioning toward emerging creation and groundbreaking artistic exploration is both a lever and a major challenge in the organization’s development. The ideal candidate will be committed to these major issues. Developing a strategic plan and implementing a capital plan will be among the major projects under their responsibility.
