Allied Arts Foundation (AAF) is a 501(c)(3) nonprofit organization based in Seattle, founded in 1967 as the funding arm of Allied Arts of Seattle. It now works directly to support artists and the future of the arts in the Pacific Northwest through artist grants, high school artist awards, fiscal sponsorship for artists and arts organizations, and arts advocacy. AAF provides umbrella fiscal sponsorship to dozens of artists and arts organizations, allowing them to accept tax-deductible donations, and separately bestows annual awards to students in Seattle-area public high schools. The organization is predominantly volunteer-run. This particular award — the Llewelyn G. Pritchard Artist Awards — is named for and funded through the generosity of founding AAF member and President Emeritus Llewelyn G. Pritchard, and provides $15,000 in grant funding annually to artists working in a discipline that changes each year.

Llewelyn G. Pritchard Artist Awards 2026 — Teaching Artists
Through the generosity of founding AAF member and President Emeritus Llewelyn G. Pritchard, Allied Arts Foundation annually provides $15,000 in grant funding for artists working in a particular discipline, which differs each year. In 2026, the award recognizes the contributions of Teaching Artists to the community, with three awards of $5,000 each. The term "teaching artist" is used intentionally broadly: the award aims to include visual artists of all disciplines who teach in addition to their artistic practice and who consider teaching to be an essential element of that practice, whether by design or out of necessity. All forms of teaching are supported, including K–12, community art programs, and higher education, as long as applicants consider teaching a meaningful component of their artistic practice. The awards are merit-based, judged on artist portfolios, with funds intended to facilitate artistic growth and experience.

Eligibility
- Applicants must be 18 or older
- Applicants must live in Washington State
- Applicants must not be currently enrolled in an educational institution as a student
- Awards are limited to teaching artists in an early or mid-career stage
- Applicant's work must not be currently represented by commercial galleries and/or in major museum exhibitions and collections
- Submissions are welcome whether instruction and discourse are defining components of the applicant's art practice, or the applicant collaborates with the intention of teaching and learning from students
- A teaching certificate is not required
- All visual art mediums are accepted
Program Benefits & Awards
- Three unrestricted grants of $5,000.00 each, awarded to three artists
- Awarded funds may be used at the artist's discretion (no project, budget, or needs statement required)
Application Fee
$20 application fee, paid via Stripe. Submission fees help Allied Arts Foundation, described as a predominantly volunteer organization, administer the grant. A fee waiver is available on request — applicants who are prevented from applying by the fee are invited to contact artistgrants@alliedartsfoundation.org.

- Application must include: name, email, and a link to a submission portfolio, submitted through the online Application Form
- Applicants should submit images and materials demonstrating both their artistic practice and teaching experience; educational materials can include programs, syllabi, lesson plans, and examples of student work
- Applicants should be prepared to provide three professional references or letters of support if requested
- Additional contextual information, such as an artist resume or explanatory information about the artwork, may be sent to artistgrants@alliedartsfoundation.org but is not required
- Online portfolios may take the form of a file folder (OneDrive, Google Drive, Dropbox, etc.), website link, webpage link, social media platform link, or other easily accessible digital link
- Artworks must be accessible without creating a paid account or an invitation-only account
- Jury members will spend no more than five minutes per artist on their initial review of submissions
- Awards are merit-based, judged on artist portfolios alone; no project, budget, or needs statement is required
