Short Description

The aim of the Malakta Artist in Residency (AiR) programme is to provide a creative space where artists can work, develop, share, interact and experiment as well as a space for inner reflection and recharge.

Malakta is located in the middle of a beautiful and quiet countryside, and is a family friendly residence. We have artist families as permanent habitants and our community of artists is active daily, so atmosphere is welcoming, life filled and safe.  And by the way, we have two saunas!

Eligibility

The residency is suitable for both individual artist and groups and families. We offer access to a range of studios and work facilities, and a place to meet with other creative people in a cozy and collaborative community. We encourage applications from a wide range of artists of different cultural and geographic backgrounds. We are open for applications for all phases – from initial research to finishing works.

For our artists we offer possibilities to hold artist talks, exhibitions, engage with community arts activities and to realize collaborative projects. Tailored individually. We want artists also to experience the beautiful Ostrobothnian nature and culture.

  1. CV/Resumé (doc, pdf)
  2. Project plan/artist statement of short and straightforward (approximately 500 words), outlying how you wish to spend your time at Malakta, please also specify preferred residency duration and dates.
  3. 6-10 images of work (max 10mb files in total) or links to online videos.

Program Benefits & Awards

Studio Toivo,  is on the top of Malakta, a space with high ceiling and windows from all directions allowing light to flow through.

Studio Eila, also on the same floor as Toivo. The studio has a massive fireplace and a nice view over Malax river and the courtyard.

Spray tower – A cozy space with acoustics perfect for arranging concerts, performances and exhibitions, the multifunctional heart of Malakta. With access to the garden with fruit trees and herbs. There are also chickens and rabbits.

Also a wide range of workshops are accessible for the artists, with basic tools for wood, metal, clay, textile and graffiti. Graphic print space and a darkroom.

Other facilities: We have two wood fired saunas and the possibility to go swimming in the river just beside them. Malakta is located at the coastline in Ostrobothnia and there is not a long bike ride to the sea. In the courtyard there is a fireplace for evening grills and get-togethers.

Entry Fee

The program fee is 1850€ per month.
