Short Description
Since 1994, Damaged Goods is the company and working structure of choreographer and artistic director Meg Stuart. The organisation is based in Brussels and receives structural funding from the Flemish Community and the Flemish Community Commission. Damaged Goods operates both locally and internationally, supported by a small permanent team and a large network of freelance artists in Flanders, Brussels and abroad. Its activities include researching and developing new artistic practices and producing a wide range of projects and performances with international tours. Since 2017 (until 2027) Jozef Wouters/Decoratelier is an autonomous ‘artist in residence’ with Damaged Goods.
Job description
Together with Meg Stuart and the financial manager, you organise, structure and produce the projects and plans of Meg Stuart/Damaged Goods. These include performances, education and transdisciplinary research, with an increasing emphasis on the latter two. Within Meg Stuarts work there is also an increasing focus on mentorship, curatorial work, community engagement, and the transmission of embodied knowledge.
You share responsibility for the overall coordination and planning of the artistic activities: from supporting artists and other collaborators and building strong partnerships to outlining a budgetary framework and developing projects in both the short and long term. You actively seek out opportunities, collaborations, theatres and other spaces where the projects can be created and presented – in Belgium and internationally.
You co-write funding applications (including the grant application 2028–2032 under the Flemish Arts Decree) and policy documents, and you represent Meg Stuart/Damaged Goods in communication with funders and peers in the local and international arts field.
Eligibility
- You have experience in the Flemish and international arts field.
- You are familiar with the work of Meg Stuart/Damaged Goods.
- You are a strong organiser, a strategic thinker, and a team player, and you enjoy multi-tasking.
- You are interested in developing and implementing more sustainable practices in our working environment.
- You are multilingual, with sufficient knowledge of Dutch (or a willingness to learn it quickly) and English.
- You don’t have to tick every single box — we are open to different backgrounds and experiences. What matters most is that you are ready for new beginnings, change and innovation within a professional arts organisation.
