Marketing & Communications Manager Job Opportunity

Marketing & Communications Manager is a full-time management position responsible for developing and delivering Aspex Portsmouth’s marketing and communications strategy. The role focuses on increasing awareness, audience engagement, visitor numbers, and income through traditional media, digital communications, social media, public relations, and promotional campaigns.

The successful candidate will work closely with the Director and wider team to communicate Aspex’s programme, strengthen its local, regional, and national profile, and contribute creatively to its contemporary visual arts programme.

The Role Overview

  • Salary: £26,000–£28,000 per year
  • Hours: Full-time, 35 hours per week
  • Contract type: Employment position

  • Line management: Gallery & Marketing Assistant, freelance staff, interns, and volunteers

  • Working arrangement: Aspex supports flexible working; job-share approaches may also be considered.
  • Equipment: A MacBook will be provided for work at Aspex and from home.

Position & Tasks

  • Develop and implement Aspex’s marketing and communications strategy.
  • Coordinate the Marketing Working Group and work with specialist Trustees.
  • Deliver campaigns designed to increase physical and online audiences.
  • Manage press, media, print, design, website, social media, and other digital communications.
  • Conduct market and visitor research, analyse data, prepare reports, and oversee GDPR compliance.
  • Produce promotional materials, exhibition materials, reports, and programme content.
  • Support income generation through fundraising, partnerships, corporate relationships, patron schemes, and campaigns.
  • Build awareness and networks across arts, education, business, and wider communities.
  • Manage the marketing budget.
  • Train and support assistants, volunteers, and placements.
  • Contribute to gallery administration, events, and Duty Manager rotas, including some evenings and weekends.

Eligibility

The position is open to applicants with experience in marketing, communications, PR, social media, digital campaigns, and related areas. Applicants are expected to meet the essential requirements in the person specification.

Relevant experience includes website CMS management, social media, digital marketing, data collection and analysis, budget management, and communications. Familiarity with Google Workspace, WordPress, Mailchimp, Adobe Creative Suite, Canva, Eventbrite, and Metricool is required.

Fundraising/business development and line-management experience are desirable rather than essential.
