Short Description
In continuation of the concerns of Msgr. Otto Mauer (1907-1973), who has gained international recognition for his commitment to contemporary art and young artists, the Otto Mauer Fund will award the 45th Msgr. Otto Mauer Prize for Fine Arts (Painting, Graphics, Sculpture, Objects, Installations, New Media) at the end of the year.
Eligibility
Austrian citizens and German-speaking Italian citizens born in the province of Bolzano, as well as persons whose normal residence has been in Austria for at least five years can apply. The maximum age for applicants is 45 years*, i.e. applicants must not have reached the age of 46 on 31 December 2025 (born in 1980 and younger); if several artists apply together as a group, no member of this group may exceed this age limit.
How to Apply
Documentation that allows an assessment of the artist’s previous artistic work (catalogues, photos, texts, videos; no originals) and a curriculum vitae of the artist must be submitted. These documents must be accompanied by name, address, telephone number, date of birth and the inscription “Msgr. Otto Mauer Prize 2025” and must be handed in or sent by post from 13 to 15 October 2025 between 10 a.m. and 1 p.m. and 4 p.m. to 5.30 p.m., whereby these items must be received no later than Wednesday, 15 October 2025.
Program Benefits & Awards
For the first time this year, the Msgr. Otto Mauer Prize includes prize money of € 15,000 and is associated with an exhibition of the prize winner in the Jesuit Foyer (1010 Vienna) as well as extensive press work. In the interest of continuing the Otto Mauer Collection in the Dom Museum Vienna, the Otto Mauer Fund intends to acquire a representative work by the prize winner.
The jury for the Msgr. Otto Mauer Prize 2025 consists of Andreas Fogarasi, Kathrin Rhomberg, Stella Rollig, Johanna Schwanberg, Gustav Schörghofer SJ (jury chairman) and Esther Stocker.
