Title & Description
Coordinator of Conservation and Restoration
MASP is seeking a highly qualified professional to oversee the preventive conservation and restoration of its collections. The Coordinator will plan, organise, and manage conservation activities, including diagnostics, risk management, emergency planning, and the execution of restoration projects. This role ensures the preservation of MASP’s artworks while supporting public exhibitions, research initiatives, and collaboration with national and international partners. The Coordinator also leads the conservation team, develops standards and policies, and oversees the safe handling, transport, and installation of works.
The Role Overview

- Program/Curator Role: Lead conservation projects and oversee team management, preventive care, restoration processes, and institutional partnerships
Position & Tasks
- Plan and implement preventive conservation and risk management measures
- Conduct diagnostics and evaluations of artworks, prioritising restoration needs
- Lead restoration projects, defining methods and interpreting scientific analyses
- Develop and revise policies, procedures, and conservation standards
- Coordinate partnerships with national and international institutions
- Supervise and manage the conservation team, defining responsibilities and professional development
- Monitor artworks in transit and provide courier support
- Support museum staff in the exhibition, handling, and packaging of artworks
- Maintain compliance with international conservation norms and health & safety standards

Eligibility
- Postgraduate degree (Master’s or PhD) in Conservation and Restoration, specialising in European painting restoration
- Proven experience in conservation, restoration, and museum environments
- Expertise in scientific analyses, preventive conservation, and project management
- Fluency in English and intermediate Portuguese (other languages desirable)
- Experience leading teams and managing complex conservation projects
