National Sculpture Society (NSS) — A long-standing non-profit organization (est. 1893) dedicated to promoting excellence in sculpture. Augusta Savage Grant
An annual grant awarding $2,500 (unrestricted) to a talented emerging sculptor who self-identifies as Black or African American. The purpose is to honor the legacy of Augusta Savage (1892–1962), a seminal African American sculptor, and to support rising sculptors in their creative journey. The grant recognizes excellence in sculpture and aims to encourage development, experimentation, and visibility for early-career Black sculptors.

Eligibility

  • Applicants must self-identify as Black or African American.
  • Must be a citizen or resident of the United States, with a valid Social Security number.

Application Requirements

  • Portfolio: JPEG images (or JPG) of 5 to 10 works. For sculptures “in the round,” applicants should submit at least two views of each work. Total maximum ~ 30 images.
  • Artist Statement (via the application platform) describing motivation, practice, and context.
  • CV/résumé summarizing career path and relevant background.
  • Basic personal information, including proof of U.S. citizenship or residency (Social Security number) per NSS rules.
