We’re inviting applications for our upcoming artist residency at ORTO, a creative hub nestled in a beautifully restored farmstead in the serene countryside of northern Portugal. Surrounded by lush nature and a thriving permaculture garden, ORTO offers a peaceful and collaborative environment for artists to reconnect with their practice and explore new ideas.
About ORTO:
ORTO is an independent, artist-run residency that supports creative minds across disciplines. We launched our first residency in 2025 with a strong focus on communal living, sustainability, and creative exchange. Artists from all over the world join us to share meals, ideas, and processes while enjoying time and space to deepen their work.
Residency Details:
- Disciplines: Visual Arts, Music, Writing, Performance, Photography, Textile Art, Film, Research, and Experimental Media
- Duration: Minimum 3-week stay
- Location: Fornelo, Portugal
Available Dates:
- Summer: June 24 – early August
- Fall: October C November
Eligibility:
Open to international artists working in any medium. Emerging, mid- career, and established artists are all welcome.
Application Fee: None
- Residency Fee: €250/week
What’s Included:
- Shared accommodation with private room in a historic farmhouse
- Studio space (communal or open-air, depending on discipline)
- Access to permaculture garden
- Daily communal lunches
- Not Included: Travel and personal materials
