Ras de Terra is a multidisciplinary cultural space situated in the historic tobacco drying facilities of Villanueva de la Vera, Cáceres, Spain. Located at the foot of the Sierra de Gredos, the project serves as a creative hub designed to bridge contemporary artistic research with the local landscape, rural traditions, and environmental ecology.

Title & Description

Summer 2026 Artist Residency.

This 21-day residency invites artists and researchers to immerse themselves in a rural Spanish territory to explore themes of art, technology, and the environment. The program is designed to provide a "calm and peaceful" environment for experimentation without the pressure of a finished result. Residents are encouraged to engage with the local community and the unique natural surroundings of the Extremadura region.

Eligibility

  • Scope: Open to international/worldwide individual artists, cultural professionals, and creative groups.
  • Experience: Open to both emerging and established practitioners; "professional" status is not strictly required.
  • Focus: Projects based on research, experimentation, and cultural exchange.

Program Benefits and Awards

  • Workspace: Access to a 150 m² shared, open-plan workspace with high ceilings and adaptable configurations.
  • Accommodation: Private ensuite double accommodation with access to communal kitchens and living rooms.
  • Support: One-on-one mentoring and curatorial guidance from the Ras de Terra team.
  • Provisions: Daily breakfast and basic pantry supplies are included.
  • Resources: Bicycles for local exploration, an outdoor swimming pool (summer), and a vegetable garden.
  • Grants Support: The organization provides letters of recommendation to help selected artists secure external funding or scholarships.

Fees

  • Individual Participation Fee: approximately €350 per week (for 1-3 weeks) or €325 per week (for a full month).
  • Shared Arrangement (Double Bed): approximately €500 per week (for 1-3 weeks) or €450 per week (for a full month).
  • Application Fee: None.
