Second Shift Studio Residency Program
Short Description
The Second Shift Studio Residency Program offers year-long, free studio residencies to four artists who identify as women, gender non-conforming, or are otherwise marginalized because of their gender identity. Artists working in multiple disciplines, including visual arts, writing, performance, and curation, are invited to apply. The residency includes access to studio spaces, a gallery, and additional facilities, with a focus on supporting marginalized gender identities in the arts.
Duration: Year-long (2025-2026)
Residency Dates: July 15, 2025 – June 30, 2026
Benefits:
Free access to 350 sq. ft. studio space for one year.
Use of a storefront/gallery, kitchenette, and basement storage.
Opportunities to participate in events like art soups, exhibitions, artist talks, and social media outreach.
Supportive community of other artists.
No rent fees; however, artists must provide their own materials and tools.
Participation in public events and an introductory group show.
Eligibility
Artists over 21 years old who identify as marginalized due to gender (e.g., trans, non-binary, genderqueer/fluid, cis-women, trans women, etc.)
Applicants must: Not be enrolled in any degree program during the residency and may not maintain a separate studio.

Selection Process:
Applications are reviewed by Second Shift’s Board of Directors. Selection criteria include the strength of the work, need for studio space, and interest in engaging with the artist community.
