Senior Manager, Major Gifts – Employment Opportunity (Hybrid)

The Rubin Museum of Himalayan Art is seeking a Senior Manager, Major Gifts to lead and expand its major donor fundraising strategy. The role focuses on developing relationships with major donors, prospective supporters, family foundations, and philanthropic partners to increase financial support for the museum’s exhibitions, educational programs, international collaborations, digital initiatives, collection sharing, and long-term institutional goals.

The successful candidate will work as a key member of the Development team, collaborating with museum leadership, trustees, and multiple departments to identify, cultivate, solicit, and steward major gifts.

The Role Overview

  • Position: Senior Manager, Major Gifts

  • Employment Type: Full-time, exempt position
  • Work Arrangement: Hybrid eligible
  • Schedule: Monday–Friday, core hours 9:00 AM–5:00 PM, with flexibility when required
  • Reporting To: Director of Development (DOD)
  • Salary Range: $110,000–$115,000 USD annually, depending on experience

Position & Tasks

  • Developing and implementing multi-year strategies to expand the museum’s donor base and increase annual major donor support from $1 million to $2 million.
  • Identifying national and international donor prospects through research platforms and wealth-screening tools.
  • Managing relationships with approximately 125+ major donors and prospective donors annually.
  • Supporting trustees and leadership in donor engagement and philanthropic networking.
  • Creating donor cultivation, solicitation, and stewardship strategies.
  • Developing fundraising materials, presentations, donor profiles, and engagement plans.
  • Supporting sponsorship fundraising for selected museum events.
  • Tracking major gift progress, analyzing fundraising performance, and preparing reports.
  • Managing campaign budgets, fundraising goals, and revenue projections.
  • Maintaining accurate donor information through Salesforce CRM.
  • Communicating the museum’s projects, achievements, and priorities effectively to donors.
  • Contributing to an internal culture of philanthropy across the organization.

Eligibility

Applicants should meet the following requirements:

  • Bachelor’s degree required; Master’s degree preferred.
  • Minimum 7 years of experience in nonprofit fundraising, major gifts, individual giving, or blended fundraising campaigns.
  • Experience with donor relationship management, proposal preparation, solicitation, and campaign planning.
  • Strong communication, writing, interpersonal, and strategic development skills.
  • Experience managing teams, projects, and budgets.
  • Ability to work independently and collaboratively in a cultural institution environment.
  • Knowledge of planned giving, family foundations, and institutional philanthropy is highly valued.
  • Experience with Salesforce, Asana, donor databases, or research platforms such as iWave is preferred.
  • Knowledge of Himalayan art, Buddhism, Asian philosophies, or New York cultural organizations is considered an advantage.
  • International Eligibility: Open to candidates who are legally eligible to work in the United States. The Rubin Museum does not provide visa sponsorship.
