Short Description

The Sparrow Artspace Residency offers a 700 sq. ft. shared studio space for artists to create, exhibit, and engage with the community. Residencies last 1–2 months, focusing on collaboration, creativity, and public interaction. No accommodations or travel funding is provided.

 

Residency Duration: 1–2 months

 

Eligibility

Only artists from Calgary (or paired with a local artist)

Artists working in non-hazardous materials (no toxic/hazardous media)

Open to individuals, collectives, and organizations

Artists from racialized, Indigenous, and/or 2SLGBTQ+ communities encouraged to apply

 

Residency Focus & Requirements

Collaboration: Minimum two artists per residency (or be open to being paired)

Community Engagement: Artists must interact with the public in their own way

Public Hours Commitment: 3 days a week (Thurs-Sat, 11 AM – 6 PM)

Additional Contributions: Social media posts, keeping the space tidy, and minor tasks

 

Program Benefits or Awards

24/7 secure access (8 AM – 10 PM daily) with FOB key

Utilities: WiFi, sink, washroom, fridge, microwave, lockers, folding chairs/tables

Art Display: Rail hanging system, TV monitor

Grant Assistance: Help available for grant applications

Special Conditions

Artists are responsible for their own materials and setup

Space may be shared with other artists, events, and workshops

Artists must arrange their own sales with buyers

 

 

Entry Fee:

$250 per artist/month (min. 2 artists required)

$375 per artist for 6 weeks

$500 per artist for 2 months

$500 damage deposit

Commission on Sales: 25% to Sparrow Arts Society
