Stochastic Labs Summer 2026 Residency: Liveness and Agency
As the digital landscape shifts from an era of data toward an era of experience, this Residency explores systems that evolve through interaction. Drawing inspiration from artificial life and the live arts—including Theatre, Sound/Music, Dance, and Interactive Storytelling—the program provides the tools and Creative Writing space needed to build and experiment. Residents are encouraged to move beyond "AI slop" and prompt fatigue to find authentic, invigorated ways for systems and humans to coexist.
This is a fully sponsored Residency and Research fellowship. The program provides comprehensive logistical support, including housing and workspace, to allow for total creative freedom.
Residents will engage in intensive building, Research, and experimentation aligned with the summer theme. Participants are expected to integrate into the Stochastic creative community by attending weekly lunches and dinners with the cohort and invited guests. The program encourages Collaboration Project initiatives among the engineers, scientists, and artists in residence.

Eligibility
- The call is open to International applicants, including individuals and teams.
- While the program welcomes creators at any career stage, the selection process is highly competitive. We seek those who would benefit from an in-person community dedicated to high-level technical and artistic innovation.
Program Benefits
- The Residency includes a private apartment at the mansion for those traveling from outside the Bay Area.
- Residents receive a dedicated or co-working Studio, shop access (including a laser cutter and 3D printer), and a Stipend or Fund for Travel Costs and other expenses upon request.

Application Requirements
Applicants must complete the online form, providing a project proposal, documentation of past work, and a statement on how their practice aligns with the themes of liveness and agency.

Key Dates

Additional Details
Stochastic Labs also offers Seed Funds for creative tech ventures where they take no equity. Residents have access to high-end fabrication tools in the mansion's "tower" and shop.
