Studio ALTA is a multicultural centre and creative hub for contemporary dance and physical theatre in Prague, active on the Czech cultural scene since 2008. It began in a warehouse in Holešovice as a space for dance and physical theatre production, moved to Invalidovna in Prague-Karlín in 2020, and in 2023 relocated to its current home in the former Libeň Brewery. The organization operates non-hierarchically, with all decisions made collectively, and runs its program under the legal entity ALT@RT, z.ú., with support from the Ministry of Culture of the Czech Republic and the City of Prague. Beyond dance and theatre production, Studio ALTA describes itself as committed to creating dignified, fairly compensated working conditions for artists and functions as a production house, rehearsal space, educational centre, and residency host for Czech and international artists.
Title & Description
Residencies 2027 — Studio ALTA's four parallel open calls for its 2027 residency cycle: House of Research, House of Rest, House in the Neighborhood, and House of Sweat.
- House of Research (April 19–28, 2027): A shared studio/laboratory residency for up to three artistic projects or individual artists, intended for early-phase research, experimentation, and material creation — or for reopening and transforming an already-completed work into a new form (e.g. turning a performance into a workshop, text, or performance-lecture). Includes access to a shared studio, individual workspace, and facilitated knowledge-exchange meetings among the group. Requires a public work-in-progress presentation at the end.
- House of Rest (March–November 2027, dates/location agreed with participants): A five-day rest retreat for arts-sector colleagues in supportive roles (production, dramaturgy, curating, PR, technical, etc.) who are overloaded or seeking space to slow down. Not conditioned on any output or activity. Two participants are chosen by public lottery.
- House in the Neighborhood (August 9–18, 2027): A residency for one performative art project made in collaboration with the local community, for public spaces in and around Libeň. This year's call is themed around projects working with the 55+ age group. Requires a public performance (premiere or work-in-progress) in a public space at the end.
- House of Sweat (February 1–10, 2027): A residency for one performative art project conceived for Studio ALTA's sauna space, exploring intimate spaces, audience proximity, and unconventional performance formats. Requires a public presentation (work-in-progress or premiere) in the sauna space during a program block from February 9–12, 2027.

- House of Rest: Open to arts-sector colleagues working (fully or partially) in production, dramaturgy, curating, PR, technical, or other supportive artistic professions, who are active (fully or partially) in the independent sector in the Czech Republic; two participants selected by lottery
- House in the Neighborhood: Open to one performative art project, whether already in progress or just starting, that engages the local community and public space in Libeň
- House of Sweat: Open to one performative art project, whether already in development or in early stages, suited to the sauna environment
Program Benefits & Awards
