Seward Park Clay Studio is a nonprofit community ceramics organization founded in 1969, located in the historic 1927 Seward Park Bathhouse on the shores of Lake Washington in Seattle, Washington. The studio has operated as a nonprofit educational ceramics institution since 1986, occupying the brick bathhouse building under agreement with the City of Seattle's Department of Parks and Recreation. Its mission is to promote the growth of the ceramic arts by providing educational programs, events, and studio opportunities for artists in a community clay arts facility. The studio offers community classes in wheel throwing and hand building for adults and children across low-fire and high-fire temperature ranges, serves over 1,000 students annually, hosts approximately 20 resident artists with 24/7 studio access, and provides daily open studio hours for students to work outside of class time.

Studio Technician and Youth Program Coordinator
Seward Park Clay Studio is seeking a reliable, organized, hands-on Studio Technician & Youth Program Coordinator to join its team. This part-time position combines studio maintenance, work with students, and one day per week of youth programming and administrative assistance. The role is intended for someone comfortable moving between hands-on studio tasks and office-based work within a creative, community-oriented environment. The Role Overview
- Position Type: Part-time, 20 hours per week
- Salary: $30–$33 per hour
- Department / Programme: Studio operations and Youth Programming
- Working Hours: 20 hours per week, with a regular schedule; Saturday afternoon availability is important, and applicants able to consistently work Saturdays are strongly encouraged to apply; schedule may occasionally shift to accommodate staff time off; a few events per year may require additional help
- Physical Requirements: Mixing 5-gallon buckets of glaze and transferring them to larger buckets; moving up to 50 lbs of clay at a time; loading kilns requires regularly bending down and holding 10–15 lb kiln shelves away from the body
Position & Tasks
- Studio & Technical Support
- Mix and maintain glazes
- Clean and maintain clay sinks and other shared studio areas
- Load electric and gas-fired kilns
- Assist with firing gas reduction kilns
- Assist with general studio upkeep, organization, and quarterly deep cleaning
- Help maintain a safe, functional, and welcoming ceramics studio environment
- Support instructors and students with basic studio needs
- Work with work-study crews to accomplish studio goals and tasks
- Youth Program Coordinator
- Assist with setting up youth classes, camps, and other programming as needed
- Help create a positive, organized, and engaging environment for young people and students of all ages
- Maintain communications with and work collaboratively with teaching artists, studio staff, and outside organizations
- Assist with marketing of youth programs and collecting photo authorization forms
- Administrative & Programmatic Support
- Dedicate approximately one day per week to computer-based work, primarily for coordinating Youth Programming
- Assist with administrative tasks, program organization, scheduling, and other studio operations
- Support the coordination and preparation of classes, workshops, and special programs

Eligibility
- Has experience working in a ceramics studio, or is comfortable learning technical studio processes — specifically firing kilns and mixing glazes
- Is organized, dependable, and able to work independently
- Enjoys working with students, young people, and work-study crews
- Is comfortable balancing hands-on physical work with administrative and computer-based tasks
- Has strong communication and organizational skills
- Is collaborative, flexible, and willing to pitch in where needed
- Saturday afternoon availability is important; applicants able to consistently work Saturdays are strongly encouraged to apply
