TEXTE ZUR KUNST is looking for a new full-time (40 hrs/week) Managing Editor to start as soon as possible.
TEXTE ZUR KUNST is a bilingual, internationally recognized art magazine that for over 30 years has been known for sparking controversial debates and publishing theoretically ambitious contributions from internationally renowned authors on contemporary art and culture. In addition to foundational essays, the magazine—which was founded in Cologne in 1990 by Isabelle Graw and Stefan Germer (†), and has been published quarterly in Berlin since 1999—features interviews, panel discussions, and in-depth reviews covering art, film, music, the market, and fashion, as well as theory and cultural politics.
Responsibilities
- Lead the editorial team (print and online)
- Plan, conceptualize, and continuously develop the thematic focus and editorial direction of TZK in consultation with the publisher
- Write original articles
- Edit and proofread incoming contributions
- Commission and communicate with authors, translators, and copy editors
- Coordinate magazine production and online activities
- Plan and implement editorial projects and activities in close collaboration with the publishing management as well as the editions and advertising teams
- Represent the magazine at art fairs and exhibition openings
- Conceptualize and organize events
Requirements
Fluency in both German and English (native proficiency in at least one is required)
In-depth familiarity with TZK
Completed degree in Art History (Master’s or higher); relevant editorial experience is a plus
Excellent writing and editing skills
Relevant network and strong engagement in art-theoretical discourse
Strong awareness of current topics in contemporary art, politics, and digital culture
Team-oriented work ethic and ability to thrive in a demanding editorial environment
Willingness and ability to work across departments
Openness to new projects and ideas, and enthusiasm for initiating and driving change and digitization processes.
