Short Description:
The Design Museum seeks a Head of Curatorial Programme (Maternity Cover) to lead Future Observatory, a national research initiative focused on the green transition, delivered in partnership with UKRI’s Arts and Humanities Research Council (AHRC). This 12-month role is central to developing public-facing content—including displays, exhibitions, and publications—that translates cutting-edge design research into engaging formats for broad audiences.
Key Responsibilities
- Lead public engagement with AHRC-funded research strands and programmes
- Oversee the 2026 Design Researchers in Residence programme
- Deliver the UK 2040 project, including two design studios and final publication
- Represent the museum publicly as a thought leader and advocate for design research
- Line manage core Future Observatory team members
Eligibility:
- Strategic leadership in cultural programming
- Deep knowledge of design and architecture with a focus on the green transition
- Strong communication and stakeholder engagement skills
- Experience delivering research-led exhibitions and public programmes
- Commitment to equality, diversity and inclusion in design research
Program Benefits or Awards:
Salary: up to £51,000 per annum, dependent on experience
Holidays: 25 days per annum + Christmas eve (museum closed)
Hours: 35 hours per week/ full-time/ 5 days per week
Contract: 12 months fixed-term contract (Maternity Cover)
the Design Museum Kensington is the place of work, with a hybrid arrangement of 60% of an employee’s role to be performed at the museum and 40% remote.
