Individual Residency Programme, Italy: TAKING TIME / PRENDENDO TEMPO

Between May and October annually, minimum two week duration. Self-catered.

Residents are supported with conditions that are vital to their artistic development: creative freedom, uninterrupted period in a caring and curated environment within which to conduct self-directed in-depth focused research and practice. There is no expectation of a finished outcome. Applications are open to creative practitioners such as visual artists, film makers, writers, designers, musicians, and researchers who work either individually or collaboratively. Individuals and groups are welcomed to the residency.

LOCATION
The residency is situated in Collemacchia, a small village within Italy’s National Park of Abruzzo, Lazio and Molise, a protected area of exceptional significance and beauty. The village has been home to artist and curator Tracy Mackenna’s Italian family for centuries and strong links are fostered between the residency programmes and the local community. The area is sparsely populated by villages that are largely trilingual Italian-French-English due to the large community of Italian emigrants who continually move between European nations, Canada, Scotland and USA, stemming from economic migration dating from approx. 1850.

FEE
€500 per week per person.
The residency fee is heavily subsidised and additionally, residents receive support and informal mentoring during the residency period.

The Group Residencies offer up to approx. nine participants a supportive, discursive environment for practice and research, exchange and co-learning. Each Group Residency is devised by (Prof) Tracy Mackenna (she/her), Curator of The Museum of Loss and Renewal, often in partnership with an organisation or person of international repute, and is individually designed to stimulate new ways of thinking and experimentation through production, research, co-learning and presentation.

Group Residencies are based around particular themes. They offer participants a supportive, discursive environment for practice and research, exchange and co-learning through immersive on-site research, individual work and multidisciplinary group collaboration. Residents become part of a multi-skilled, international peer-group. Through practice-based thinking and doing the Group Residency programmes help residents develop tools, methods and strategies to enrich their work and (re)consider how best to make it public. They are a focussed support structure that fosters multidisciplinary work and provides focused critical feedback.

N.B. Proposals are welcomed from groups and organisations that would like The Museum of Loss and Renewal’s Curator to devise a tailored residency programme, to focus on specific areas of practice and research.
