Vermont Studio Center (VSC) was founded by artists in 1984. We welcome writers and artists for residencies in Johnson, Vermont, and host programs and events. Our mission is to provide studio residencies in an inclusive, international community, honoring creative work as the communication of spirit through form. Our buildings, many of them historic Vermont landmarks, overlook the Gihon River in the northern Green Mountains.

For four decades, our residency program has offered residents and the general public an opportunity to engage with global creative communities. We invite Visiting Writers and Artists from around the world to join us during our residencies to mentor residents, present readings, facilitate craft talks, and give lectures that are open to the public.

Open Call is open February 15, 2025 through March 31, 2025

How to Apply

Online Application

Applications are juried together in a pool by a rotating jury of practicing artists and writers. For each application deadline we have fellowship opportunities which are listed on our fellowships page. Applicants whose work was well-received but were not awarded a fellowship may still be invited for admission. Find more details on our application FAQ page.

Fellowships offer full funding and will be awarded to artists and writers with exceptional work.

All accepted residents will enjoy access to our renowned Visiting Artists (Painting/Mixed Media (2D), Sculpture/Mixed Media (3D), Printmaking, Photography) & Writers Program, private accommodations, private studio space, and delicious fresh daily meals. You’ll join an inspired international creative community of artists and writers.

Residency sessions are approximately 2, 3, and 4-weeks. Each residency is an opportunity to create and connect in a supportive community where you can further develop your practice.
