Located in Rockville, Maryland, VisArts is a 501(c)(3) non-profit contemporary arts organization established in 1987. Operating as a vibrant regional hub for artistic exploration and social impact, VisArts presents critically acclaimed contemporary art exhibitions, sponsors Studio Artist and Emerging Curator programs, and leads community art initiatives designed to support artists, encourage experimentation, and embrace diverse global perspectives.

VisArts Call for Solo Exhibitions 2027 (Rockville, Maryland): Free Open Call

VisArts has launched its Call for Solo Exhibitions 2027, inviting emerging and mid-career artists working in all media to submit ambitious, experimental, and interdisciplinary proposals. Selected artists will present a solo exhibition in one of three distinct gallery spaces within VisArts' facility in Rockville, Maryland. Open to local, national, and international artists, the call encourages site-responsive proposals and offers floor plans and SketchUp models for precise exhibition design.

Exhibition Spaces

Applicants may apply for any or all of VisArts' three gallery spaces:

  1. Gibbs Street Gallery: Approximately 1,100 sq ft with 16-foot ceilings. Located at street level with floor-to-ceiling windows along one wall; ideal for large-scale, immersive, and architectural installations.
  2. Common Ground Gallery: Approximately 300 sq ft located on Floor 2. An intimate gallery space well-suited for focused solo presentations and smaller bodies of work.
  3. Concourse Gallery: Approximately 500 sq ft located on Floor 2. Features a curved wall of windows and accommodates 2D/3D work, installation, and time-based media.

The call accepts All Contemporary Artistic Media, including Painting, Sculpture, Installation, Photography, Video, Sound, Performance, Digital Art, and Interdisciplinary Practices.

Eligibility

  • Demographic Scope: Open unconditionally to local, national, and international artists living and working anywhere worldwide.
  • Career Stage: Welcomes emerging and mid-career contemporary artists.
  • Exclusions: Artists who have presented a solo exhibition at VisArts within the past three years (2024–2026) are ineligible to apply.
