Founded in 2014, Zaratan functions as a creative hub for artistic production, research, and cultural exchange. Open Call: Residency Program ZARATAN AIR (Lisbon, Portugal)
The ZARATAN AIR Residency invites international and internationally‑based artists, performers, curators, writers, musicians, and cultural practitioners to apply for a multidisciplinary artistic residency in Lisbon, Portugal. This program provides selected participants with the space, time, and support to develop their creative projects in an immersive cultural environment. The residency encourages experimentation, collaboration, and exchange among residents and the local art community. It is designed to nurture artistic growth, broaden professional networks, and foster dialogue across creative disciplines. Participants will have the opportunity to reflect on their practice, engage with peers and curators, and present their work through open studios or public events.

Eligibility

The ZARATAN AIR Residency open call is open to:

Program Benefits & Awards

  • Residency Grant: Once per year, Zaratan awards a 4‑week residency grant that covers studio and accommodation fees for one selected participant.
  • Private Accommodation: A fully functional apartment with a private sleeping room and dedicated working studio.
  • Studio Space: 24/7 access to a private working space within the residency setting (top of the gallery).
  • Technical Support: Logistical and organizational support throughout the residency period.
  • Promotion & Communication Assistance: Visibility through Zaratan’s networks and communication channels.
  • Public Presentation Opportunities: Residents are encouraged to share their work through open studios, talks, performances, or other formats.
Zaratan also supports residents seeking external funding and can provide letters of invitation to assist in securing grants or travel support.

Application Requirements

To apply, candidates must prepare and submit a single PDF file (max 24 MB) containing:

  • Preferred residency period (duration and proposed dates)
Applications are evaluated by a selection committee composed of artists, curators, and community members. Successful applicants are notified via email.
