The International Ceramic Sculptural Symposium in Bolesławiec is one of the longest-running ceramic art programmes in Europe, with over sixty years of continuous activity.
Held annually in August in Bolesławiec, Poland, the programme offers artists a unique opportunity to work directly within active ceramic factories. Participants engage with industrial processes, traditional craftsmanship, and contemporary artistic practice, creating a dynamic exchange between art and production.
The symposium takes place across three major ceramic manufactories, where artists collaborate with experienced technicians and craftspeople. This environment allows for experimentation with materials, forms, and processes that are rarely accessible in standard studio conditions.
The programme is open to international artists working in ceramics, sculpture, and interdisciplinary practices. Previous participants have included artists from Europe and beyond, creating a diverse and collaborative environment.
Each edition includes:
– access to ceramic materials and kilns
– technical support within factory environments
– participation in the Bolesławiec Ceramics Festival
– post-symposium exhibition and bilingual catalogue
– accommodation and lunch are provided during the symposium.
The symposium is organized by the Bolesławiec Cultural Centre – International Ceramics Centre and plays a key role in promoting dialogue between contemporary art and one of Europe’s most recognized ceramic traditions.
