Locoto is a space for thought and creation situated on the outskirts of Xochimilco, Mexico City. Our inaugural edition proposes the “chinampa as a method”: an invitation to inhabit the territory through a layered creative process, prioritizing observation, listening, and slow time over the urgency of production.
Located in a house in the town of Santiago Tepalcatlalpan, the residency invites four artists from any discipline to immerse themselves for four weeks in a liminal environment, where the megalopolis meets ancestral water canals. We do not expect residents to simply document Xochimilco, but rather to allow the territory to inform and transform their practice.
