MARES is a non-profit cultural organization founded by curators Tatiana Palenzona and Amina Berdin. Its mission is to support emerging artists, foster new dialogues—both locally and internationally—and build networks that connect artists with the surrounding community. A key focus is also the revitalization of the Monumental Complex of Santa Croce in Alessandria, showcasing its potential as a vibrant cultural space.
Tales, the second edition of the residency program at the Santa Croce Complex. MARES is offering 4 artists the opportunity to explore the history and distinctive character of the Alessandria region, providing a free working space within the Complex to develop new thematic works.
With its spacious halls and restored areas, the Santa Croce site is the ideal setting for workshops, talks, and the final exhibition, which will open on 26 September 2026 and present the works produced during the residency. Artists and the curator will be encouraged to focus their research on the characteristic aspects of the region and to establish connections with communities across the province of Alessandria, in order to gain insights into its social, economic, and geographical landscape.
The residency is open to emerging artists and researchers in visual and performing arts, video and digital art, art criticism, and curatorial practices. To foster a broad cultural exchange, the program aims to host both Italian and international participants within the same environment, encouraging new dialogues.
The accommodation is fully covered by the program, as well as a production fee, a monthly stipend, and the use of a car for local transportation, and traveling expenses. The residency includes a final exhibition and the publication of a catalogue produced in collaboration with Allemandi Publishing.
