Iba Open Call for Exhibition

We’re super excited to announce that we’re officially accepting submissions for our upcoming exhibition ‘To Drive Into The Flux: Breathing With Chaos.’

This exhibition is the third and final instalment of our three-part series investigating temporality.

We encourage all and every medium to participate in this large trans-disciplinary exhibition and we most of all welcome the voices of artists from under represented backgrounds

To Drive into the Flux : Breathing with Chaos.

Chaosmosis ~ a hybrid alliance between chaos and kosmos; loosely, the fusion of order and disorder; to breathe with chaos.

This exhibition, acting as the third and final instalment of a three part series investigating temporality, aims to look into the future, and honour it in all its flimsy, messy, and unpredictable reality.

Having just explored the nature of accelerationism in the contemporary age – how our lives are subject to constant expansion at an exponential and uncontainable rate – we now wish to interrogate the consequences.

 Acceleration innately leads to de-stability.

In a moment where acceleration seems to be moving with such expansive force that all facets of life are rhythmed with precarity – the economic landscape, ecology, mental health, and our conception of a future – this exhibition wants to find its purpose in that very precarity. We believe that precarity, this de-stability, can be a positive force. Temporality, that being the very ebb and flow of our lives, our pasts, our desires, and our potentials, is nothing other than the push and pull of constant contingent becomings. If we wish to witness reality, we must drive head-first into the flux itself. What can become of a comfortable alignment with chaos? What might emerge in a curious and provocative enquiry into confusion and overwhelm itself?

Understanding temporality as the flux of a chaosmotic force, rather than as a rigid and incriminating dogma through which we are confined to follow strict paths upon straight roads, might help us to move away from armageddon-infused and apathetic imaginaries that riddle contemporary intellect. To approach the forces that govern us – language, economics, morals or, of course, temporality – with an air of creativity, curiosity, and chaotic intent might be a step towards living by our true values.

Key conceptual terms: re-genesis, chaos, renaissance, fluctuation, de-stability, oscillation.

 Eligibility

The show will run approx 6-13th October (these dates may be subject to change slightly).

In recognition with the inequities of the art world, and in accordance with our company values, this project aims to prioritise the voices of artists from unrepresented backgrounds.

Artists do not need to be London based, but do need to be capable of delivering, hanging, and picking up their work. We do not take responsibility for works left after deinstallation day unless previously explicitly agreed.

There is no fee for submission, however, as this is not a grant funded exhibition, selected artists will share the cost of presenting the show with a participation fee of £80. To keep with our ethos of inclusivity, if this fee is impossible but you would like to be considered, please let us know in your application and we will work around you.
