Sancy Tourist Office: Horizons “Arts-Nature”

Scheduled from 14th June to 14th September 2025, the nineteenth Horizons “Arts-Nature” en Sancy contemporary art event is to feature highly original plastic artworks of an ephemeral nature, created specifically for the Massif du Sancy.

The call for projects launched by the Sancy Tourist Office is for the creation of 10 artworks to be installed across the towns and villages of the Massif du Sancy local council community.

First and foremost, this event aims to be an enduring project with a regional flavour that will unite our communities and local cultural and tourism partners.

Horizons “Arts-Nature” en Sancy is a national-scale artistic event aimed at a wide audience of experienced art enthusiasts and novices alike. The exhibits will be installed at sites that help to highlight the natural surroundings.

The spirit behind the event:

The originality of this event is that it features highly original plastic artworks of an ephemeral nature, created specifically for the Massif du Sancy. Each artist takes inspiration from the site to design a piece that specifically fits the region. This aspect is just as important as the artwork itself.

The aim of the event is to:

  • Develop contemporary creation in Auvergne,
  • Allow the region to benefit from the vision and sensibility of professional artists,
  • Boost development of the culture and tourism sectors in the Massif du Sancy.

Target audience

  • Contemporary art enthusiasts,
  • Culture tourists,
  • Holidaymakers,
  • Passing visitors,
  • Local visitors (from the department or region).

Installation sites:

Potential sites for the installation of the artworks will be chosen (via an exhaustive list) on the basis of the following criteria:

  • Aesthetic and artistic appeal
  • Natural sites
  • Variety of landscapes (peak, lake, forest, open space, etc.)
  • Visitor facilities in the vicinity (car park, rest area, etc.)

The sites are made available for the duration of the event. These may be private or municipal properties, with or without the presence of the owner/farmer. They consist mostly of farmland devoted to summer grazing with the presence of cattle, sheep or horses, or to crops that are cut during the season. It is therefore essential to take such constraints into account, which may mean avoiding disruption to local activity, protecting artworks with fences that are suitable for the animals concerned, or installing the exhibit at the spot where it will have the least impact on the farming activity. In order to best accommodate all of these considerations, a meeting is organised ahead of the installation period to discuss these points in detail and take decisions that comply with the needs of all concerned.

The event is open to all national and international artists, without any limit of age. Young talents (graduated from art school in the past two years) are also welcome to apply.

An artistic remuneration in an amount of 8,000 EUR (incl. all taxes) will be provided to each artist or group of artists selected including: 6,500 EUR in artistic costs (including travel) and 1,500 EUR in royalties (recommended proportion).

Deadline: 24 November 2024
