The Rupert Museum is hosting an open call for artists and creatives from any industry to submit responsive works inspired by the AbstRacT – the hidden synchrony exhibition. These works will be showcased in a group exhibition at the Jan Rupert Art Centre in Graaff-Reinet from February to September 2025.

- Application Period: 17 May 2024 – 14 February 2025
- Exhibition: February – September 2025 at Jan Rupert Art Centre, Graaff-Reinet, Eastern Cape, South Africa.
- Deadline for Submission: 14 February 2025
- Submission: Submit electronically to opencall@rupertmuseum.org with a submission form, synopsis (up to 300 words), and high-resolution images or video of the completed work.
Eligibility:
- Open to anyone living in South Africa and over 18 years old.
- Works must be created after April 2024.
Theme:
- AbstRacT – the hidden synchrony exhibition collections should inspire the responsive works.
- The open call seeks to inspire engagement with the Rupert Museum’s permanent collections and offers the opportunity for artists to exhibit and sell their work.
How to Apply:
- Submit a completed submission form, synopsis, and high-resolution images/video via email to opencall@rupertmuseum.org.
- Multiple entries are allowed, but each entry requires a separate form and synopsis.
Submission Requirements:
- Two-dimensional works: Framed size within 150 x 150 cm, depth not exceeding 25 cm, and must be stable for travel.
- Three-dimensional works: Must stand freely and fit within the size limit of (h) 250 x (b) 200 x (d) 200 cm.
- Multimedia or film: Works must be compatible with a 50” Smart TV (if the artist does not provide their own monitor).
- Kinetic works: Must include the necessary devices, electronics, and plugs.
Selection Process:
- Submissions will be evaluated based on the quality of work and size.
- Selection notification: By 3 March 2025.
- Unsuccessful submissions notified by 19 March 2025.
Program Benefits/Awards:
- Selected works will be exhibited at the Jan Rupert Art Centre, Graaff-Reinet, and must be available for sale (priced under R65,000).
- No commission fees charged on sales.
- Exhibition sales will be supported by an online auction.
- Travel costs from major city centres in South Africa will be covered, while artists are responsible for getting their work to designated drop-off points.
- Packing and crating costs will be handled by the museum.
- Works will remain on display for the duration of the exhibition.
