Short Description

Peterborough Presents is seeking artists who identify as Deaf, Disabled, or Neurodivergent (DDN) to apply for an accessible residency in Peterborough, UK, starting in Spring 2025. This initiative aims to mark the 30th anniversary of the Disability Discrimination Act and the 15th anniversary of the Equality Act by engaging the DDN community in creative storytelling and expression. The residency will culminate in Autumn 2025 with an artistic output such as a performance, exhibition, or installation.

 

Important dates: Project public engagement: Spring 2025 – Autumn 2025.

Project Culmination: Autumn 2025

There is potential to do something final to mark International Day of People with Disabilities on 3 Dec, however we have found that DDN audiences are not always able to attend in person to events on this date because of the temperature / weather.

Evaluation: within 1 month of the final event / activity.

 

Benefits:

Budget: Total up to £10,500, including:

Artist stiped: £5,000

Production costs: Up to £4,000

Travel & accommodation expenses: Up to £1,500

Opportunity to collaborate with local DDN communities

Support from an Access Coordinator and local partners

Public presentation of work in Peterborough

Inclusion in a broader artistic programme with micro-commissions and city-wide activities

 

Eligibility

Open to artists identifying as Deaf, Disabled, or Neurodivergent

At least five years of experience working with communities

Artists of all disciplines (visual arts, performance, installation, outdoor arts, poetry, music, dance, theatre, photography, film, etc.)

Preference for artists with a connection to the Peterborough region

Encouraging joy, celebration, activism, and accessibility in the arts

 

How to Apply

Provide 3-4 examples of past work (can include links to websites or social media)

Answer four application questions in written, audio, or video format

Complete an anonymous pre-application demographics survey

Selection Process

Evaluated by a community-led commissioning panel

Quality and originality of the proposal

Relevance to the themes and audiences

Feasibility within budget and timeline
