Short Description
Theodor Körner was born in 1873 in Újszőny near Komorn in what is now Hungary. As the son of an officer’s family, he also embarked on a military career at an early age. He proved to be extraordinarily talented and was taken on into the General Staff service at an early age.
Since its foundation, the Theodor Körner Fund has supported the realization of excellent work from a wide variety of disciplines every year. The awards will be presented during a ceremony at the Education Centre of the Vienna Chamber of Labour, traditionally the prizes are presented by the President of the Board of Trustees and the Federal President.
Eligibility
Submission to the Theodor Körner Fund is open to people regardless of citizenship and academic or non-academic status. The Theodor Körner Fund has set itself the goal of promoting young scientists and artists. Scientific research projects as well as art, literature and composition projects in progress can be submitted. In addition, funding is provided for the development of research designs that are intended to serve as a basis for competitive application procedures (FWF or at least equivalent).
The Theodor Körner Fund awards its prizes exclusively for “work in progress“. The submitted project must have already begun, but not been completed before the end of the respective application year. Submitted projects must have been designed independently by the applicants, be carried out alone and be feasible within two years. For the claim year 2025, this means a completion deadline between 1 January 2026 and 30 November 2027.
In the scientific disciplines, only research projects can be awarded. Mediation, translation and publication projects or the like are therefore excluded from the application. Likewise, Bachelor’s and Diploma/Master’s/Magister theses, habilitation projects and contract research are generally not funded.
The Theodor Körner Prize awards prizes in a total of 7 categories, which are spread over two areas.
