Short Description
The Taylor Wessing Photo Portrait Prize 2025 is an annual international photography competition organized by the National Portrait Gallery, London. It celebrates contemporary photographic portraiture and provides a platform for photographers to showcase their work in an exhibition.
Theme
Portrait photography, broadly defined as capturing an individual’s identity.
Photographs must be taken from life after 1 January 2024.
How to Apply
Register online via the competition platform
Upload up to six digital images (JPG/JPEG, max 3MB each).
Pay the entry fee.
If selected for the second round, submit physical prints between 2–6 June 2025.
Submission Requirements
Up to six portraits (individual or as a series).
Black and white or color images.
Must be printed on paper, metal, or other suitable surfaces.
Unframed and no larger than 1015 x 760mm, max 20kg.
Model release form required if the image includes people (and a minor release form for under 18 subjects).
Photographers must provide a large TIFF file if selected for exhibition.
Selection Process
First round: digital submission.
Second round: physical prints judged anonymously.
Selected works will be notified by 16 May 2025 (second round) and 17 June 2025 (exhibition selection).
Judges reserve the right to not award prizes or alter prize distribution.
Eligibility
Open to photographers aged 18+ as of 1 January 2025.
International competition (not limited by nationality).
Previous first-prize winners (since 2008) are ineligible.
Employees of the National Portrait Gallery and sponsors cannot apply.
Program Benefits or Awards
The overall winner will receive £15,000.
Selected photographs will be exhibited at the National Portrait Gallery.
The Gallery may promote and reproduce selected images for marketing, education, and archival purposes.

Each entry costs £22. The maximum number of entries per artist is 6.
