Short Description
This call is part of Sounding images – Screening sounds (SISS) a two-year-long project exploring the relationship between music and image through innovative audiovisual art.
We invite emerging artists under 35 to submit completed works in audiovisual and experimental music.
We are interested in innovative, interdisciplinary practices at the intersection of sound and image.
SISS Open Call invites artists under 35 to submit audiovisual works in 4 categories:
Experimental Visionaries, Screened Sound, Young Pioneers and a commission for AFAM students.
This is a single call with four categories: three are open to all nationalities, while the fourth is a special
commissioning opportunity reserved for Italian AFAM students. Eligible Italian applicants may choose to
apply either to one of the general categories or to the AFAM-specific category. The call will award one
winning work per category.
Eligibility
- Individual artists under 35 years of age (at the time of the submission deadline)
- Collectives are eligible (the average age of the members must not exceed 35)
- Categories A, B and C are open to all nationalities
- Category D is open to students or recent AFAM graduates with proof of Italian AFAM enrollment or graduation (obtained by the deadline of the call)
- Category D in case of collectives at least 50% of members with AFAM qualifications
- Each candidate/collective can submit only one work in one category
- The final work must not exceed 20 minutes. The exact duration will be defined by the organizing committee, in agreement with the Cineteca di Bologna, which will provide a restored short film for thee selected participants to work on.
Submission Requirements
• Personal Information: name, contact details, etc.
• Short biography: up to 300 words
• Title of the submitted work
• Project description: a brief overview of the project, including technical requirements and setup (max
800 words)
Program Benefits & Awards
- 1 winner per category
- €2,500 gross (includes travel and accommodation for events in Lecce and Trento)
- Winning works will be featured in official public performances held by March 20, 2026 in Lecce or
Trento, Italy - In the case of a selected collective, the award will be considered as a single, total amount for the
entire group and will not be divided among individual members.
