Short Description:
Are you familiar with contemporary art and do you see beyond national borders? As a curator, you will contribute to leading exhibitions and projects that help shape the museum.
You will research, write and help develop ideas that will be displayed in the galleries, on paper and online. You will represent S.M.A.K. at home and abroad, and collaborate with artists, museums, galleries and collectors.
You will be given the space to strengthen your network, tap into new sources of funding and steer projects in terms of content.
Job description
- With your in-depth knowledge of national and international developments in contemporary art, you will help guide S.M.A.K. and strengthen its position as a leading museum in the art landscape.
- As a curator, you will be a driving force behind exhibitions and projects with a national and international character. You will develop and coordinate innovative art projects that are in line with the museum’s vision and mission and that contribute to an inclusive and diverse cultural practice. Weekend and evening work are part of the job.
- You are an experienced curator who knows what is involved in setting up an exhibition: in-depth research, well-thought-out project descriptions, realistic budgets, and smooth implementation and follow-up.
- You will provide the basic content for room texts, the website, press releases, etc. to the communications team, who will then develop this further.
- You will make proposals for accompanying programmes (lectures, workshops, etc.) for the exhibitions.
- You will proudly represent the museum at relevant conferences, on juries or in panel discussions, always in consultation with the team leader and colleagues.
- You will be keen to use your existing network of artists, museums, curators and collectors to set up collaborations and projects, and you will constantly be on the lookout for new, valuable contacts to expand your network nationally and internationally.
- You also demonstrate your added value in the area of financing: you identify opportunities for sponsorship and subsidies and independently compile clear and convincing subsidy applications.
