Short Description

The Curatorial Fellowship at the Peggy Guggenheim Collection offers the opportunity to gain hands-on experience in multiple aspects of working with a dynamic twentieth-century art collection and its related temporary exhibitions, such as conducting online and in-person research in archives and libraries on various topics, artists, and works of art; compiling exhibition and publication histories, and conducting tours of both the permanent collection and temporary exhibitions for different audiences. The fellow will also assist with internal records management, content development for digital platforms, and the reinstallation of the permanent collection.

Main tasks

  • Conduct in-depth research on works in the permanent collection, their presentation, and related themes, artists, artworks, and provenance using archival, library, and digital sources.
  • Research and compile exhibition and publication histories of artworks.
  • Research artists and artworks included in upcoming exhibitions.
  • Maintain regular communication with the Curatorial Department to share findings and contribute to historical documentation.
  • Participate in conservation-related research or documentation, if necessary.
  • Create, update, and manage internal records related to the collection and exhibitions, including checklists. Assist in developing and updating curatorial content on the museum’s website and digital platforms.
  • Provide support during reinstallation of the permanent collection.
  • Lead guided tours of both the permanent collection and temporary exhibitions for a range of audiences.
  • Support PGC activity and implement health & safety measures.
  • The fellow can also participate in the educational activities of the International Fellowship Program (seminars, conferences, study trips in and outside Venice, and guided tours specifically organized to facilitate practice, discussion, and deepening of academic and professional skills). They can access the museum’s library of modern and contemporary art and archive.

Education / Previous Experience

  • Candidate must be fluent in Italian and English.
  • University education in / related to 20th-century art.
  • Preferably: 6 / 12 months of experience in this field.
