Freshman admission requires a minimum academic GPA of 2.50; international applicants must also meet UWG's English-language requirements and submit the required academic documentation.
  • Applicants to BFA Art Education who seek teacher certification have additional program requirements. The Teacher Education Program application requires a 2.7 overall GPA and completion of specified general-education requirements and the Georgia Educator Ethics Assessment.
  • International applicants whose previous education was completed outside the United States must follow UWG's requirements for official academic records and, where applicable, foreign credential evaluation.

International applicants whose first language is not English must provide proof of English proficiency. For most programs, UWG lists TOEFL iBT 69 or IELTS Academic 6.0 overall. Funding & Financial Support

UWG provides scholarships and financial-aid opportunities. The Art Program specifically offers scholarships and awards for admitted incoming freshmen and continuing Art majors. Some Art scholarships require portfolios, essays, financial-need statements, GPA thresholds, residency conditions, or other eligibility criteria. International eligibility therefore depends on the individual award and should not be generalized across the scholarship portfolio.

University Services & Academic Support

  • Relevant academic and professional support includes Career Services, major and career exploration, job and internship resources, graduate-school planning, mentoring, and Handshake.
  • Art students have access to dedicated studios and laboratories, including painting, drawing, animation, photography, graphic design, printmaking, sculpture, ceramics, and foundry facilities. UWG galleries provide exhibition opportunities for student artists, including student-curated exhibitions.

Application Requirements

  • Undergraduate applicants must submit the online application, the $40 application fee, and official academic records. International applicants must provide the documentation required for their applicant category and proof of English proficiency where applicable.
  • For the BFA in Art Education, additional Teacher Education Program requirements apply. Portfolio requirements identified on UWG's Art pages relate to individual scholarships rather than a general undergraduate Art admission requirement.
  • Program-specific graduate requirements vary by program. UWG directs graduate applicants to the individual program for additional required materials.

Additional Details

UWG's admissions deadlines differ between undergraduate and graduate study. International applicants are subject to additional documentation and immigration requirements. For undergraduate creative fields, Art and Film have different academic structures: Art is offered through BFA/BA pathways, while Film is offered through the BS in Film and Video Production and the interdisciplinary BIS in Film.

For international students, the published undergraduate tuition schedule distinguishes international tuition from both Georgia-resident and out-of-state rates. Fully online programs can have different tuition arrangements, so the published international on-campus rate should not be applied to every UWG program.
