‘Caminos de Hierro’ photography competition

The Spanish Railways Foundation is holding the 32nd ‘Caminos de Hierro’ photography competition with the aim of promoting creativity in the railway sector.

1. Participants. Each contestant will submit a maximum of three individual photographs or a photographic series related to the world of railways. The photographs must be unpublished, may only be submitted by their authors and may not have been manipulated using Artificial Intelligence .

2. Preselection. They must be sent by October 31, 2024 in digital format through the form on the website www.caminosdehierro.es (jpg. maximum 1.5 MB). The series will consist of three, four or five photographs, assembled into a single file. A maximum of 150 works will be preselected.

3. Selection of finalists. Once the authors have been notified of the preselection of their photographs, they must be sent in paper format to be eligible for selection and prizes. Individual photographs may have a free image spot, on a paper with a minimum format of 24×30 cm and a maximum of 40×60 cm. The total size of the series may not exceed 90×45 cm (horizontal or vertical) or be less than 80×35 cm (horizontal or vertical). Once the paper images have been received, a maximum of 70 finalist photographs will be selected, which will be published in a catalogue and exhibited in places that the Foundation deems of interest. The non-selected works may be collected by their authors at the headquarters of the Railway Foundation, from March 1 to May 31, 2025.

4. A category has been created for railway-themed photographs, taken with a mobile phone and published on Instagram. Up to 3 individual photographs may be submitted in three different posts, in any of the formats accepted by the social network.

5. Selection. They must be uploaded to the social network Instagram, with the tag #32CHPic and citing the account @fundacionferrocarriles , until October 31, 2024. 20 finalists will be selected whose images will be exhibited in digital format.

6. Prizes. First Prize: €4,000 Second Prize: €2,000 Runner-up: four €400 prizes Instagram Prize: €800. The final decision of the competition will be made in February 2025.

7. Jury. The Foundation will appoint a committee to pre-select and select the photographs and a jury that will issue a final decision on the selected works.

8. Intellectual property. The winning works will remain the property of the Spanish Railways Foundation, which may exhibit them publicly. The authors of the winning and selected works will cede, free of charge to the Foundation, the rights of reproduction and public communication for the purposes of exhibition and dissemination through the media published by the Foundation, or by third parties at its request, mentioning the name of the author.

9. Losses and damage. The organization will take the utmost care in preserving the photographs, but will not be liable for any possible loss, theft or damage they may suffer.

10. Personal data. The personal data requested will be incorporated into a file owned by the Spanish Railways Foundation, FSP, whose purpose is to carry out the actions derived from participation in the competition. Interested parties may exercise their rights of access, rectification, opposition, deletion (“right to be forgotten”), limitation of processing, portability and not to be subject to individualised decisions, by writing to the entity. 11. Contingencies. The organisation is authorised to resolve any contingency not foreseen in the Rules.

12. Acceptance of the Rules. Participation in the competition implies acceptance of these Rules.
