European Media Art Festival

Media artists from all over the world can now submit their works for consideration at the European Media Art Festival 2025. The online platform at https://emaf.filmchief.com/entry-forms is now open.

We welcome works from the fields of film, installation and expanded (live projects such as performances, interactive works or workshops). The submission deadline is January 10, 2025. Our curatorial team will compile the program for the upcoming festival from the submitted works.

Submitting works is free of charge . Artist fees will be paid for all contributions selected for the festival.

Realignment of prices

We will be reorganizing the awarding process from the next festival edition. Until now, the festival’s three prizes were awarded among all films selected for the International Competition. In the future, we will divide the available prize money equally among all short and medium-length films that are selected for what will be known as the International Selection . These are equal winners of the EMAF Award and will each receive prize money of €400.00.

We are convinced that films do not need competition to prove their uniqueness. Our film selection and programming is based on the dialogue that develops between films as well as between films and audiences. We also see the abandonment of competitions as a further step towards more fairness and transparency in festival work. Similar to the consistent payment of artists’ fees and the rejection of premiere requirements, it is intended to strengthen the EMAF as a place where exchange and encounters take priority over competition and exclusivity.

A jury from the Association of German Film Critics (VdFk) awards the EMAF Media Art Prize of the Association of German Film Critics from among all the films in the International Selection . The prize is unfunded.

German short films that have been selected for the International Selection can be considered for the award of five reference points in accordance with the current regulations of the German Federal Film Board (FFA). For the EMAF Media Art Prize of the German Film Critics, a distinction will continue to be made between nominations and award-winning films when awarding points.

The 38th European Media Art Festival will take place from April 23 to 27, 2025. The exhibition at the Kunsthalle Osnabrück will be on display until May 25, 2025.
