La Ferme-Asile is a multidisciplinary artistic center intended to develop and promote creation in Valais and Switzerland. Specializing in contemporary art and music, Ferme-Asile contributes to the development of artistic expression and culture in a place of creation, production, research, training and meetings. La Ferme-Asile welcomes several times a year and for a period of 2 to 3 months, a professional artist residing abroad. This residency program aims to allow artists to stay in Valais while benefiting from a natural and cultural environment conducive to the exercise of their art. It is open to applications from international professional artists working in visual arts, sound arts or performing arts.
The selected artists have an apartment of 45m2 and a workshop of approximately 18m2. The Canton of Valais offers a grant of CHF 1,500 per month of residence. Travel expenses are the responsibility of the artist.
TRAVEL AND ACCOMODATION
Travel costs are the responsibility of the artist.
Residents are responsible for arranging their own visas and other necessary travel documents. The erme-Asile will provide assistance where possible.
Residents must also ensure that they have valid insurance covering medical assistance and accidents during their stay in Switzerland.
The Ferme-Asile offers support at the residence through a contact person. Once in Switzerland, the residents can benefit from administrative assistance provided by the team of the Ferme-Asile.
An artistic event is planned at the end of each residency: open studio, outdoor exhibition, performance, screening evening, installation of a work in situ, etc. Artists are also invited to propose other meetings during their residency.
The selection method is carried out by a commission composed of the director of the Ferme-Asile, a representative of the Culture Department of the Canton of Valais, the cultural affairs delegate of the City of Sion, a resident artist from the Ferme-Asile, as well as an external expert.
The call for applications for our residency program appears in April of each year. Information will be published on our website and social media in due course.
The selection process is carried out by a commission composed of the director of the Ferme-Asile, a representative of the Service de la culture du Canton du Valais, the delegate for cultural affairs of the city of Sion, an artist resident of the Ferme-Asile, as well as an external expert.
To participate, the application must include the following documents (pdf):
• Summary (max. 1000 characters) of the project proposal;
• Short biography with a description of the artistic practice (max 1000 characters);
• Complete CV;
• A cover letter with detailed description and relevance of the project (max 2 pages);
• Portfolio in digital version presenting the professional artistic work done during the last 5 years;
• Letter of recommendation from a professional in the applicant’s artistic field and references.
Incomplete applications will not be taken into consideration.

– 15 march to 15 may 2025
– 1 june to 31 august 2025
The application can be written in French or in English. It is imperative to mention the date of the chosen or preferred residency in the letter. Applications should be sent by e-mail only and in one pdf file to the: info@ferme-asile.ch, with the mention “International Residencies”.
The application deadline is 1 May 2024. The decision will be communicated in July 2024.
