FSAS: International Curator Residency Award 2024

FSAS invites international curators, working either independently or with institutions, to apply for residencies, to take place through 2024 and will award up to 6 residencies.

The FSAS International Curator Residencies programme provides contemporary international curators with accommodation and a stipend to live, work and network in Dublin, for a duration of 3-4 weeks. Residencies are programmed to begin in late January/early February 2024. FSAS will further develop the programme for return visits where appropriate in 2024.

Who is the residency for?

  • Curators who are working independently or with institutions.
  • Curators who can spend time in Dublin for up to four weeks and no less than three weeks.
  • Curators with a strong track record and over five years of experience in the field.
  • Curators developing curatorial research/practice relationships in Dublin/Ireland.

About the Residency

Through these residencies, FSAS provides the armature to build links/fosters collaborations between international artists, curators, art institutions & their Irish counterparts. This residency programme provides opportunities for international curators to:

  • connect in person with the Irish visual art scene.
  • undertake research, studio visits and participate in Dublin & Ireland’s dynamic visual arts sector.
  • make connections, explore international exhibition opportunities with Irish artists, with introductions facilitated, where possible, by FSAS staff.

The FSAS Dublin city centre location is within walking distance of all major galleries both public and private and artists’ studios which are located close to Dublin city centre. For national connections, FSAS is located close to national rail and bus transport lines to Cork, Galway, Limerick, and Belfast.

As part of their residency, International Curators are:

  • asked to give a short public talk here in our Project Space at the beginning of their stay to meet resident & non-resident practitioners from Dublin and beyond, to elaborate their practice.
  • to take part in studio visits with FSAS artists and attend FSAS events coinciding with their stay.
  • to write a brief report for our own evaluation purposes at the end of their residency to help FSAS continue to refine our awarded residency programme.
  • to bring previous publications or exhibition ephemera relating to their recent work, and where possible, recommend active reading material of current interest for the FSAS library.
