Glasgow International Assistant Venue Managers

Glasgow International is seeking Assistant Venue Managers to work in some key exhibition venues as part of the festival. These are vital roles for the festival, ensuring festival venues are staffed at all times and accessible to visitors, enabling audiences to gain a meaningful and enjoyable experience from the festival.

The roles will support the public presentation of festival exhibitions over an eighteen-day period in June 2024, in a range of existing and new exhibition venues around Glasgow.

Glasgow International is part of Glasgow Life, the charity that manages culture and sport in Glasgow, and following the festival post-holders will have the option to remain as part of Glasgow Life Bank Staff. This will enable them to work with other cultural venues and events that are part of the Glasgow Life portfolio.

The role
As an Assistant Venue Manager (Audience Engagement) for Glasgow International, you’ll be an integral member of the festival team. Assistant Venue Managers will be responsible for managing primarily non-Glasgow Life venues, ensuring that these venues are able to open safely to the public each day of the festival, that exhibitions and art works are cared for, and that festival audiences receive a warm and knowledgeable welcome to the festival.

You will also join the Professional Development Programme for Glasgow International 2024, a programme of training and development for the whole Front of House Team. This programme includes a range of training and development sessions prior to the festival offering an excellent opportunity to: learn more about festival projects and the artists presenting in the festival; to gain skills and experience in speaking with confidence about contemporary art to a diverse range of audiences; to gain customer service and other practical skills, access and equalities training; and to develop a cohesive team dynamic.

It is critical to anyone considering applying for these roles that they are available to participate in this training that will take place from 20 May 2024. Participation in this activity is paid at the same rate as the rest of the role. Candidates must also be available to work diverse shifts, including some evenings and weekends, from Wednesday 5 – Sunday 23 June 2024.

About you
If you are interested in joining us as an Assistant Venue Manager (Audience Engagement), you will need:

  • Experience of venue management
  • A demonstrable interest in contemporary art
  • Excellent customer service skills
  • Experience of working as part of a team, with some experience of supervising team members

Glasgow International is based at Tramway, 25 Albert Drive, Glasgow, G41 2PE, but these roles will be based at multiple locations throughout the city. Following GI, the role will remain as part of Glasgow Life’s Bank staff, with the opportunity to undertake the same role at other venues and events as part of the Glasgow Life portfolio.
