Ikon is recruiting an Artist in Residence at HMP Grendon (January 2024–June 2025) to facilitate weekly workshops and co-curate exhibitions in the studio with the prison communities.
We are seeking a dynamic, talented and highly motivated artist to lead on the visual arts programme at HMP Grendon. The successful candidate will have experience in teaching/technical facilitation of workshops alongside their own artistic practice.
Over 18 months, the Artist will deliver practical workshops with the Producer and Art Orderly on two set days per week (currently Wednesdays with wings A and C, Thursdays with wings D and F). The Artist will collaborate with the prison community to co-curate exhibitions of their own and other artists’ work in the Marie-Louise von Motesiczky Studio (up to three exhibitions per year). The focus of the Artist in Residence at HMP Grendon is the production of new work and exhibitions at the prison.

Contract: Temporary, part-time 18-month fixed term
Freelance project fee: £22,725, plus £9,000 travel fee
