Kohila Symposium is an annual international wood fired ceramics event held in Kohila, Estonia. Over the past 23 years, the symposium has hosted 230 prominent and emerging artists from 35 countries.
This event encourages an international exchange in the field of ceramics as well as enhances appreciation and understanding of wood firing.
The first symposium took place in 2001, after the first anagama-type kiln was built in the Tohisoo Manor Park. It was founded by Andres Allik, Aigi Orav and Külli Kõiv who were organizing and curating the symposium until 2015. Juss Heinsalu and Evelyn Saul organized the Kohila Symposium from 2015 to 2020. From 2021 the symposium is hosted by Lumi Kristin Vihterpal and Jekaterina Kultajeva. The site currently has a nationally recognized anagama kiln built by Andres Allik.

Come and participate in the anniversary year of the XXV Kohila Symposium CLAY & PERFORMANCE.
The symposium will take place from 04.07 to 28.07.2025 at Tohisoo Manor, Kohila.
The Kohila Symposium is an international event focused on wood-fired ceramics that takes place once a year in Raplamaa. Next season will mark the 25th anniversary!
We are seeking a performance artist open to new experiences and challenges, who will engage with the creative process and ceramic works of the participating artists during the symposium, creating a performative piece for the joint exhibition at the end of the symposium – the GRAND FINALE.
To apply, please submit a letter of motivation and a portfolio (in Estonian or English). We are accepting applications until February 1, 2025.
