LESArtists is a 1 month spring artists residency on Lake Maggiore in Italy’s northern Piedmont region. The resident artist will be hosted, free of charge, at our garden apartment, Lo Studio (https://www.homesteadhospitality.co/projects/lostudio).
LESArtists is a residency that creates space for international artists to find inspiration, develop their craft, build community and connect with the natural landscape and culture of Italy.
Explore the iconic islands and lakeside promenades that dot the shoreline of Lake Maggiore. Discover the historic villages, fairytale villas and sprawling gardens that have inspired artists, musicians and writers throughout the ages, from Alessandro Manzoni to Ernest Hemingway. Trek the ancient Roman trails that twist through the foothills of the alps. Revel in the Italian ‘dolce far niente’ – the sweetness of doing nothing.
Duration of residency
This is a one month residency during March 2024. We can be flexible on exact dates.
Accommodation
We will host the resident at Lo Studio (https://www.homesteadhospitality.co/projects/lostudio), a 1 bedroom, 1.5 bathroom modernized apartment in a typical Italian stone house that dates back to the 17th century, with a balcony overlooking Lake Maggiore. There is a covered patio and terraced garden that can be used as an outdoor workspace. Inside, there is a kitchen/dinning room, bedroom, wood burning stove and a modern bathroom with a soaking tub.
Disciplines, work equipment and assistance
This residency is open to artists of all disciplines. We live and work nearby and can provide local guidance and programming based on the residents craft and their interests. Activities to inspire creativity such as hiking, foraging, cooking classes, sailing and more can be arranged. On lake Lake Maggiore there are many museums, villas and gardens to explore. From Lesa, the train to Milan takes 1 hour where the resident can access museums and other points of interest.
Fees and support
The residency is offered free of charge.
Expectations towards the artist
The artist will be asked to donate a piece of artwork.
