Application form for MONADE Art Residency in Bergerac (France) OPEN CALL 2025 now!
Welcome to the region of the “cradle of Humanity”, people settled 17,000 years ago in the Vézère valley. It is all this common and universal heritage that you will discover!
The residency program is open to international professional artists and artistic background students.
MAR is an international workshop program for creation situated on the ground floor of a 2-level classified house (XV c.) in the pedestrian historical centre of Bergerac.
nb: The studio is fresh in Summer time, a little river flows nearby!
One artist at a time with the opportunity of a partner/2nd artist.
New annual program periods: March to November (see all periods available further below).
Period is minimum 2 weeks and maximum 3 weeks. See fees further below.
VISUAL ARTS (drawing, painting, photography, architecture/design, film editing/screenplay, textiles,…), MUSIC and LITERATURE are welcome.
An exhibition will be proposed to the artist-in-residence at the end of the stay but it’s not an obligation.
The exhibition space (circa 10 sqm) is open on the pedestrian street, free entrance for the public!

Every submission is studied at the end of each month UTC.
Deadlines are: 30 November, 31 Dec, and so on. The final deadline for application is February 28th, 2025 UTC. The available periods are updated after each deadline.

The artist pays a residency fee for the stay at MAR as well as his/her own travel expenses and all other personal living expenses during the residency. You will get a confirmation e-mail that your application went through and an answer within 2 weeks. If accepted, you have 7 days to confirm your stay during the period proposed by us. Then you will receive an approval letter less than one week after and you have 14 days to pay a deposit of 150€ to guarantee your position (no refundable in any case).
The total of the fees has to be paid 3 months before your arrival date.

The granted residency period is not secure until full payment is processed.
Note: Travel, transport, visa, daily living expenses, medical insurance and production are not included. The artists bring their own materials or can also purchase in Bergerac and surroundings (Bordeaux, Libourne, Périgueux, Sarlat, etc…). You can rent a bike at the tourism office “Quai Cyrano” at the harbor.
Monade Art Residency does not have a funding board or body attached to it. We also do not offer scholarships or stipends. It is advised that you seek funding in your own country.
TRAVEL to Bergerac: from Paris or Bordeaux respective train stations or airports (Bergerac or Bordeaux).
The easy way to come to Bergerac from England (London), Belgium (Brussels), Netherlands (Rotterdam/Amsterdam) is by plane because you have direct flights all year (see more below).
Train: do not hesitate to check the website ouigo.com (daily trains from Paris to Bordeaux: from 9€ to 28€!).
Bergerac central train station is about 1h10 from Bordeaux-Saint-Jean train station. Our residency is about 8min by walk from the station, otherwise you can get or book a taxi there. If you rent a car to come, it is about 1h from Bordeaux. A free car park is 6-minute walk from the residency.
Flight: Bergerac airport has its own destinations as well, check their website. Also, from Bordeaux airport, there’s a tramway straight from the Airport to Bordeaux-Saint-Jean train station (30 minutes journey).
Cost of life: In Bergerac there are 4 food markets per week (every Tuesdays, Wednesdays, Fridays and Saturdays’ mornings), we calculate that for one person it is circa 30-35 euros per week for fresh food purchases (this is just a summary assessment!).
Fees:
* 990 EUR paid by artist for 3 weeks (+ 690 EUR for partner/2nd artist).
* 690 EUR paid by artist for 2 weeks (+ 490 EUR for partner/2nd artist).
A deposit agreement is kindly made between us and artists on arrival.
Cancellation policy:
If cancelled prior to the full payment, we propose to reschedule the residency in the first place. The fees will be recalculated in accordance with the new period chosen.
If cancelled 2 months prior to the scheduled arrival date, 50% already paid by the artist is refundable.
If cancelled 1 month or less prior to the scheduled arrival date, no refund is available.
The refund will always be in EUR. Bank transfer costs will be subtracted from the refund amount.
