Museum of National Taiwan University Open Call

The Museum of National Taiwan University of Education (MoNTUE)’s “Dreamin’ MoNTUE” is now accepting submissions from today until September 30th, 2024. We welcome individuals or groups aged 20 to 40 (at least one-third of the members must be between 20 and 40 years old) to submit experimental and interdisciplinary art creation projects. Join us in exploring the future possibilities of the museum. Through artist/curatorial team residencies and on-site creations, the museum transforms into an experimental stage, deconstructing the boundaries between “people,” “museum space,” and “art creation,” sparking a dialogue and fusion among these elements, uncovering the unknown and exploring new possibilities.

The biennial “Dreamin’ MoNTUE,” which began in 2015, actively seeks global submissions. By leveraging the museum’s professional resources and support, the project aims to assist a new generation of creators. The fifth “Dreamin’ MoNTUE” coincides with its tenth anniversary, and designer HOUTH has been specially invited to create a new visual identity. Inspired by the concept of “dream-catching creatures,” the word “夢 (dream)” is deconstructed and reassembled in negative space to form a creature-like mimicry, transforming imagination into reality. Reflecting rising costs and actual production expenses, this year’s project budget has been increased to NTD 1,000,000.

In 2017, the first edition of “Dreamin’ MoNTUE” presented “The Serene Gallery” by Yeh Ming-Hwa and “Masingkiay” by Fangas Nayaw. Both exhibitions introduced performing arts into the museum space and blurred the distinctions between the viewing habits of visual and performing arts to explore new forms of museum exhibitions with their interdisciplinary curatorial projects. The 2019 “Dreamin’ MoNTUE” showcased “This is a Story from the Laundromat” by Chia Chien-Ju, which amalgamated dance, sculpture, video, and live installation to challenge the possibility of museum exhibitions. The 2021 “Dreamin’ MoNTUE” took place amidst the global pandemic. Chang Ting-Tong used this opportunity to initiate an online exhibition project, “Soap,” which responded to the reality of museums being forced to shut down and transform, as well as the inundation of information. It also re-investigated the future trends of exhibitions as the boundaries between the real and virtual gradually disappeared. The fourth edition featured artist Chang Li-Ren, who has spent fourteen years creating “Battle City: Finale”, which is now shown in MoNTUE. This project has built scenes in the real world in a stage play-like manner, constructing a complex and vast labyrinth from scratch. By fully exhibiting “Battle City,” it guides the audience to see how the artist strives to maintain his self and ideals in an increasingly realistic environment.

The “Dreamin’ MoNTUE Project” is open to individuals or groups of any nationality aged 20 to 40 (at least one-third of the members must be between 20 and 40 years old). Selected participants will have the opportunity to exhibit at the MoNTUE Museum of Arts, utilizing the exhibition spaces on the 2nd, 3rd, and B1 floors. The museum will provide professional resources and an exhibition production budget of NTD 1,000,000 to help the selected participants realize their dreams.
