Looking for artists for a site-specific project at the San Giovanni Hospital in Persiceto (Bologna)
“Immersive” is the title of the new Call presented by the contemporary house-museum Paciu Maison in collaboration with Umanizzarte, promoted by the Centro Antartide and partnered with the Bologna AUSL (Local Health Authority), the Municipality of Bologna, Alma Mater Studiorum – University of Bologna, and supported by the Carisbo Foundation.
Although a surgical procedure may be routine or low-risk, the moments before entering the operating room are always filled with tension and anxiety: the patient is often already on the stretcher, dressed only in a gown, being transported to the operating rooms in a state of passive waiting, often accompanied by fear and agitation. This is why the space the patient passes through aims to transform into a place of interaction with the people inhabiting it, becoming an immersive reality experience.
“Immersive” invites artists, graphic designers, and designers to imagine an artwork that will be printed and applied to the upper part of the walls of this corridor and its ceiling, in those portions of the path that the patient gazes at while being transported to the operating room. The artwork should serve to entertain, relax, and offer a moment of beauty to counterbalance the tension often felt in the minutes before anesthesia, while also providing healthcare workers with a more welcoming environment.
Participation in the Call is free, with a final award offered, and it is open to artists who present a single visual art proposal aimed at transforming the corridor leading to the operating rooms of the San Giovanni Hospital in Persiceto. The goal is to reduce anxiety and tension typically associated with these spaces.

The selected work will be awarded a prize of 700 euros, and the artist will be invited to oversee its proper installation in the area.
UmanizzArte aims to bring innovation to local healthcare services with a focus on humanization, combating vulnerabilities, and improving the perceived quality of services. This is done by using cultural tools, artistic and communicative languages in a broad sense, and launching three pilot projects in different healthcare settings. In addition to the San Giovanni Hospital project, there are two other experimental projects underway: one in the Pediatrics area of the Borgo Reno Health Center and another in the Semi-Intensive Care Unit at Maggiore Hospital.
Paciu Maison, a contemporary house-museum, is not only the venue for various artistic activities and public visits but also actively promotes culture, with a particular focus on healthcare spaces. Projects like “Find the Painting,” carried out at the Bellaria Hospital in Bologna despite the challenges posed by the Covid-19 pandemic, and other site-specific installations aim to foster interaction between care and art, opening a new dialogue for both patients and healthcare workers, with the ultimate goal of improving well-being and quality of life.
